The Backgammon house
The Backgammon House, designed by sustainability experts Dr Kerry Mashford and Dr Frank Ainscow, together with Jason King of BE Consultants, combines practical design, innovative materials and intelligent building control to significantly reduce energy usage.
VELFAC glazing is installed at the award-winning Castle Rock High School, built on the edge of Leicestershire's Charnwood Forest. The school, designed by the County Council's architecture team, is BREEAM rated 'very good', and was also upheld as an exemplar design by the office of the Deputy Prime Minister.

A major installation of VELFAC glazing is a significant feature of St Wilfrid's Catholic School, Crawley, designed by architects Curl la Tourelle. Purpose-built to house 930 pupils, the school centres on a striking, curved double-storey teaching block, wrapped around a courtyard, with a double ribbon run of VELFAC windows installed along its full length.
Sited in the grounds of Nottingham City Hospital, Maggie’s Centre is a two-story, floating oval ‘tree house’ built by the Maggie Keswick Jencks Cancer Caring Trust, and conceived by architect Piers Gough of CZWG in collaboration with designer Paul Smith.
